Mr Good Says:
I first visited Watanabe Coffee with Mr MRT a year back. At that time, we wanted to make use of their WiFi while having a drink. And right at the entrance, we noticed a sign stating a dining time limit during peak hours. While I understand the motivation for this signage, it gave off pretty snobbish vibes, which I didn't like. Drink prices are also on the high side (for reference a Black Coffee costs S$6.80++). Definitely uppish so we decided that there will be no revisit.
A year on, Ms Teatime suggested to have breakfast here while we were in the vicinity. I obliged despite my reservations because she has a knack for choosing good eateries. Plus, listening to my wife is my secret to a blissful marriage 😛
To my surprise, their breakfast set starts from a pocket friendly price of S$7++, which is very cheap considering that a black coffee already costs S$6.80++.

But, on a closer look, I saw that the sets only include 1 slice of toast serve in halves, 1 egg (Onsen or Hard Boiled) and 1 Black Coffee/Tea or Juice. Haha! This can't fill me! We definitely have to order more than 1 set each.
Since Ms Teatime was advised by our baby's Pediatrician to avoid dairy while she is breast-feeding (to prevent baby from suffering from eczema), we went for the Butter Toast Set, Banana Cinnamon Toast Set plus a Plain Croissant, items that are likely to be dairy-free (the PD gave butter the okay). We also had a dessert afterwards.

To be honest, after trying the food, I feel that the good food quality along with cozy ambiance justifies the prices charged. While simple, every item was well executed and tasty. The onsen egg in particular was noteworthy. It was such a pleasure to crack open the shell and watch the fresh and perfectly cooked egg slip into the bowl because it can be disappointing if a under/over cooked egg has emerged. Slurping the still warm egg down with a little pepper and a tiny drop of soya sauce was super satisfying!
Now will I return? This time it is a resounding YES! On my next visit, I may give the lunch menu a go!
