Ms Teatime Says:
In Asia, we believe that postpartum confinement (30 to 40 days immediately after childbirth) is an important period of recuperation for the mother. That's why after confirming my pregnancy, the first thing I did was to book a confinement nanny to assist me in this critical period.
Alas, a few months later, Tian Wei Signature proposed to sponsor me 14 days of confinement meals in return for my honest review. Haiz.. what a pity I thought. This offer came too late. Why would I need confinement meals when I already have a nanny to prepare nutritious meals for me?

But wait! What about after my nanny leaves? In those trying times when I will be sleep deprived as I struggle with mummy duties (breastfeed, diaper change and bathe the newborn), it would be wise to have a dependable source of good food to lift my mood and to provide me enough energy! So yes to the collaboration!
My Review on Tian Wei Signature
First Impressions
My first impression of Tian Wei was a good one because their website is easy to navigate and contains a lot of essential information. Their day-to-day menu and pricing can also be readily accessed online without any sign ups. In my personal opinion, having to sign up, call or submit an online inquiry just to access price and menu is a waste of a mum-to-be's time. Hence, Tian Wei scores high points for facilitating this ease of access! Ordering online is also a breeze with just a short form to fill in.
Service
As I extended my nanny's services, I had to delay my meal activation date and I was happy that the change could be easily done via a phone call to their customer service hotline (available daily).
Subsequently, I also rang them up a few times for service disruption and each time my experience with them was pleasant. Their customer service personnel were friendly and reliable so I did not encounter a single hiccup with my changes.
I was further impressed that their team had the initiative to ask for feedback about the meals then took necessary actions swiftly. For example, I commented that the soups were too herbal and Tian Wei immediately adjusted the proportion of herbs such that I could taste the difference in my soups from the next day onward. I had assumed that catered meals are cooked in a big batch hence can't be customized. But I was wrong, Tian Wei is able to do it!
Food
Tian Wei prepare their meals using fresh and healthy ingredients, without any artificial flavouring or MSG, which is pretty standard for any confinement meals.

But what delighted me most is their commitment to support lactation by using milk boosting ingredients in every meal! That's music to a breastfeeding mum's ears! Keep my milk supply UP UP UP!!
Another thing I like about Tian Wei is their fusion confinement dishes. Traditional confinement food focuses on regulating a woman's "qi" and to remove "wind" in her body so they feature black vinegar, ginger, livers/kidneys and herbs strongly.
Unfortunately some woman do not like these ingredients at all. I have a friend who hates all of the above so she had a hard time eating her confinement meals. Personally I am alright with most confinement food but dislike too much herbs in my soups. If you are like us, Tian Wei Signature may be your solution.

While Tian Wei still serve traditional confinement dishes and herbal soups, which are quite tasty (I like most of their meat and vegetable dishes but do not appreciate their soups), I am more impressed with their creative and toothsome fusion confinement dishes. Their fusion dishes, which are cooked with a touch of Mediterranean or Japanese influence, look atas and taste as good as a restaurant's. If only all my meals are fusion meals!

Among them, my favourite is the Tian Wei Signature Coq Au Vin, which is the Asian version of the classic French chicken casserole dish. Tian Wei's version features a huge chicken drumstick braised in red wine. I had this twice and both times the chicken was succulent and flavoursome!

Now pair that awesome drumstick with a dessert and it becomes a drool worthy meal even for my husband! And speaking of which, Tian Wei is very generous with their portions so hubby and I often shared the meals and still felt full. This makes their confinement meal pricing even more competitive!

Delivery
As stated in their Terms & Conditions, delivery times are 10am to 1pm (lunch) and 4pm to 7pm (dinner). But this does not mean that we have to deal with the uncertainty about when our meals will arrive within this time frame. With just one phone call to their hotline, I was able to receive the meals at my preferred time everyday (within 30 mins variance).

All Tian Wei Meals are packed in microwavable plastic containers then delivered in thermal bags. For maximum heat retention, soups are also cling wrapped.
Conclusion
Overall, I am satisfied with Tian Wei Signature because their nutritious and appetizing meals are pro-breastfeeding and also include fusion dishes for variety. But what pleases me most is that desserts are also part of my meal whenever a fusion dish is served. Food taste can also be tweaked to my preference and customer service is excellent.

If you are ordering from Tian Wei, remember to state your preferred delivery time and be specific about your likes and dislikes when calling in for service activation. For those who are still undecided, order a trial meal and find out for yourself if their food suits you. Portion is generous so be prepared to share it with someone!
