Mr MRT Says:
Folks! I've discovered another cafe with Free WiFi! This one is located at Ann Chuan Industrial Building, King George's Avenue, walk-able from both Bendemeer and Lavender MRT Station. It is perfect for Night Owls and drinkers since it opens till 1am on Friday and Saturday.
Okay so strictly speaking, The Refinery is not a cafe but a casual restaurant that serves coffee. To be more specific, it is an interesting space integrating a hip restaurant bar on the first floor, mixology bar on the second and a designer studio on the third, all within an industrial building. Cuisine is Asian Fusion, with the "Asian" part leaning heavily towards Japanese. The Refinery is open for lunch and dinner and closed during breakfast and tea time. On weekends, brunch is available.
I visited with some colleagues for their weekday set lunch (S$19++ onwards). My choice of main was the Teriyaki Chicken Don, which tasted good with well grilled meats. My colleagues had the Refinery Gyudon. Generally, the serving size is small.
Browsing their menu, I spotted some uncommon sides like Chicken Soft Bones and Tempura Kang Kong, which I might come back for. I reckon they will pair well with some Asahi beer.
Prices are on the steeper side here, which is probably why The Refinery wasn't crowded during lunch peak. If you don't mind forking out a little more, it does make a nice place for lunch on days you don't want to squeeze and shout for conversation.
