Shop/Food Review
Ms Teatime Says:
I returned to The Milky Way for coffee after a long hiatus and was pleasantly surprised that they now serve mains (a simple all day breakfast and some food court style Chinese food). Best part though is their reduced menu prices! Espresso based coffees are generally $1.50 cheaper and waffle with ice cream is about $3 cheaper! My first thought was, did they downgrade their beans? The cashier assured me that the beans are the same but I can't be sure because I can't remember if the coffee tastes the same. I will be back another time to check out their waffle standard after this price drop.
Review (21 Aug 2016)I didn't expect to find a dessert cafe in a sleepy old town where most of its residents hold a PG (Pioneer Generation) card. But surprise surprise! Smacked right between salons and old-fashioned shops is The Milky Way, an up-to-date looking cafe selling gelatos, waffle and coffee. (No mains here.)

The Milky Way serves consistently good homemade Belgian waffles (crispy edges and fluffy interior) and satisfying lattes with coffee beans from one of my favourite coffee roasters, Tiong Hoe Speciality Coffee. The blend used is Gachala, which is described as having "well-rounded acidity, satsuma sweetness, good complexity, soft nutty characteristics with a chocolate finish", exactly what I like in a coffee!
As an added bonus, you may even be served by Campus Superstar, Renfred Ng! Because this cafe is opened by him. When Renfred is not around, you will be served by his brother, who is equally good looking and super friendly. Service is another of The Milky Way's strong points.
I brought along Mr MRT and he also gave a thumbs-up as the Milky Way is located within walking distance (~200m) from Commonwealth MRT Station and provides Free WiFi and Charging Points! The only person who wasn't impressed is Mr Bargain Hunter. He found the price slightly high for such a neighbourhood. I agree, but I am one who will pay for quality so I will be back!
