I am a big fan of avocado so when Swensen's avocado toast started to pop up on my Instagram feed, I just had to go try it! Verdict? Well, the avocado paste was decent- chilled, smooth and not too sweet. However, it is slightly runny and I prefer more textured ones. I also think that a savoury avocado toast will be more suitable for breakfast. Another gripe I have with this toast set is the portion. The amount of scrambled eggs that came with the avocado toast was too pathetic!
Miss Teatime had the Omelette Set, which was not bad. It was tasty without being oily or overly salty. On their breakfast menu, there were a couple of other items that looked interesting (like the Southern Style Chicken and Waffle) so we might be back.
If you have kids, do bring them along to take advantage of Swensen's breakfast offer where each child gets a FREE kids breakfast for every adult breakfast ordered. One word of caution, although the official breakfast hours are 8am to 11am, they actually close breakfast orders 10 mins early (at least that's the practice at the IMM outlet), so make sure you arrive way before the stated 11am closure time. Also, note that breakfast is not available at all outlets. Do check their website for details.Review (21 Oct 2017)
Swensen's was my favourite childhood restaurant as it serves gigantic ice cream parfaits (like Earthquake & The Volcano), delicious ice cream cakes and French fries with dips! After decades, it is still an endearing place for kids (my nephews are big fans).
Serving a wide range of comfort food at comfortable prices, it is a good place for a casual meal with the family. However, I will recommend that you stick with the classic dishes (like the Sourdough 49ers Chicken and Fish & Chips) and avoid the slightly cheaper "Price is Right" meals and desserts. The price may be right, unfortunately the taste is not.
Swensen's is also perfect for birthday celebrations since they give FREE ice cream to diners on their birthday (ID is required).
