Mr Good Says:

If you are a cutlet fan, don’t miss out on RedRing Treasures, the cutlet specialist!

While you can easily find fish cutlets at Western Food stalls, chicken cutlets at Chicken Rice/ Taiwanese Food stalls, pork cutlets at Japanese Tonkatsu restaurants and fried squids at Chinese Zi Char stalls, it will be hard to find all four cutlets at the same eatery. But at RedRing Treasures, that’s exactly what you will get!

Started in 2014, this local eatery offers fish, chicken, pork and squid cutlets all under one roof, aiming to satisfy all your cutlet cravings at one go!

To bring forth the best flavours for the various meats, RedRing does not use a one-type-fit-all marinate and batter for all its cutlets. Instead, several batters and marinates are made, each to complement a different type of meat. With four types of meat, each with its own unique taste, it shouldn’t be hard for you to find a cutlet that suits your taste-bud.

Chef in action

In addition, all RedRing cutlets are fried on the spot, only upon your order, then swiftly cut and served so that you can be guaranteed hot and crispy cutlets each time, every time!

Overall, RedRing boasts a menu full of tasty and affordable foods. But, do order with caution and restraint. Because their whole menu revolves around fried food, too much can make your meal too jelat. But if taken in moderation, you will want to return again and again to have their cutlets.

Mains

Pork Cutlet Noodles (S$6.50 Nett)
DOUBLE Chicken Cutlet Noodles (S$6.90 Nett), DOUBLE Fish Cutlet Curry Rice (S$8.90 Nett)

At RedRing, instead of French fries, you can choose to pair your cutlets with whole egg noodles (spicy or non-spicy), hor fun or curry rice. If you are a spicy fan, my recommendation is to pay a little more (S$1 extra) to go for the curry rice (white rice served with curry veggies and curry gravy). Super spicy lovers may also want to heap on some of the homemade chilli padi sauce! For carnivores, add on the second cutlet for only S$1 more!

Platters

Cutlet Platter – Large size, recommended for 4 (S$21 Nett)

If you come in a big group or want to try a little of everything, RedRing’s cutlet platter could be a good choice.

The Cutlet Platter comes in two sizes and is served with sweet chilli sauce, mayonnaise and a homemade salted egg cream. I find it commendable that RedRing bothers to make its own salted egg sauce; it’s a pity that it was a little too mild for my liking.

The small platter (recommended for two persons) is S$13 Nett and includes a chicken cutlet, a pork cutlet, a squid cutlet and fu pi (bean curd skin) dumplings. For each small platter purchased, you are entitled to add on up to two plates of noodles/hor fun for S$1.50 Nett each.

The large platter (recommended for four persons) is S$21 Nett and includes DOUBLE chicken cutlets, DOUBLE pork cutlets, one squid cutlet, fu pi dumplings and assorted mushroom fritters. For each large platter purchased, you are entitled to add on up to four plates of noodles/hor fun for S$1.50 Nett each.

My favourite items in this platter are the chicken and squid cutlets. RedRing’s chicken is thick, juicy and well marinated without being too salty. The batter texture is similar to Shihlin’s though the taste is different. RedRing’s squid is perfectly cooked, tender and moist, enveloped in a thin, crunchy crust. While my fellow diners and I were initially excited about the mushroom fritters, we ended up a little disappointed as it was a tad too oily.

Sides

Fried Onion Blossom – Small (S$7.50 Nett)
Fried Onion Blossom – Small (S$7.50 Nett)

When you slice a whole onion into many parts then coat it with flour to be deep fried, the onion blossoms into a beautiful edible onion flower with onion fries as its petals. Adopting a rather plain and light batter, RedRing allows the natural onion sweetness to shine through in this dish. Although this makes the onion blossom delightful to munch on, I will recommend you to share this among a bigger group; otherwise, it may get boring. After all, this is just tonnes and tonnes of onion fries.

Fu Pi Dumplings (S$5.90 Nett)

As the name suggests, this is spiced chicken wrapped in fu pi (bean curd skin). It is a nice side dish to have!
