Review: Rascal + Friends Diapers from New Zealand
By Denise Chua | December 18, 2018
Super soft, super absorbent & super cute diapers. Keeps the pee and poo in for your active baby! Both Tape and Pants type are available.
How I Got To Know Rascal+Friends Disposable Diapers?
R+F offered me a trial pack to try in return for my feedback. I did a quick Google search and was attracted to their no explosion (stop the poo leakage!) and no nasties claims. It also helps that their diapers look so cute! Basically, I couldn't find a reason not to try them so I did!
What Happened After The Trial?
Baby Eachern became R+F's nappy ambassador (so yay we get free diapers)! This collaboration does not require me to blog but I like R+F too much not to share it here!
What I Like About Rascal+Friends Disposable Diapers And Why I Recommend Them?
At the surface level, I like how soft and aesthetically cute the diapers are. By the sense of touch, R+F diapers have the softest hand feel across all the other brands I've tried on baby Eachern.
Diapers come into constant contact with my baby's sensitive skin so I prefer his diapers to be as allergen-free as possible (free from chlorine, latex, fragrance, etc) as possible. Of course, cloth diapers are still the best natural choice. But washing cloth diapers is too much work.
Prior to using R+F, I tried a couple of "green (non-toxic)" diapers. While they are very natural, some are scratchy while others are flimsy and not absorbent at all. Hence, I gave in and bought a Japanese brand diaper that wasn't very natural but at least it was very soft. With that one, I had to change diapers frequently and apply diaper cream for every diaper change as my baby's bum will have some redness if I don't.
So when I discovered R+F disposable diapers, I was over the moon! Basically, R+F is my happy compromise between baby-safe and convenience!
After switching to this No formaldehyde, NO chlorine bleaching, NO latex and NO lotions or fragrance diaper, I hardly use the diaper cream anymore. Yet, it performs as well (perhaps even better) in terms of absorbency. I have tested the pants type diaper overnight for 12 hours and there was no leakage or wetness on baby. In fact, Baby Eachern goes without a diaper change for 9 to 12 hours stretches every night.
The high back waistband, deep pockets and 3D leak core design helps to keep the urine and poo inside the diaper even for an active baby like Eachern (he kicks ALL day!). However, do note that correct usage is essential to ensure ZERO leakage.
Baby Eachern sometimes goes a few days without poo. Don't worry peeps, he is exclusively breastfed so he is not constipated even without daily poo. Anyway, when the poo finally arrives, it is a POONAMI (think Tsunami, poo version). But my R+F diapers always keeps the poo in, except once. That time, I happened to have my hand right at his buttocks while he pooped and that pressure caused his poo to rush right up and out of even that high waistband! So do be careful about where your hands are dear mummies!
Another time I opened his diapers in the middle of the night to check for urine and found it relatively unused and I sealed it back quickly and carelessly. Lo and behold, I found my baby crying from urine leakage in the morning. So please remember to wear your baby's diapers properly (adjust the leak guards and waistband to fit) if you don't want to deal with with stained bedding and a crying baby!
What I Dislike About Rascal+Friends Disposable Diapers?
It is a big convenience to have a wetness indicator and I prefer having one. Unfortunately, due to their no dye policy, R+F diapers do not have it. (If you are interested, you can read about why some parents avoid diapers with dyes here.) Initially, I was unaccustomed with not having one and felt quite "lost" about when to change diapers. I finally mastered the art of diaper changing without a wetness indicator but it did take some getting used to. You have to decide how important the indicator is for you.
Currently, R+F is exclusively available online via Redmart. Redmart can provide same day delivery most of the time but not always. When they can't, this does pose some inconvenience since I can't pop by a nearby supermarket to grab a pack.
Will I Pay To Use R+F Disposable Diapers?
Yes! I will continue to use them after the collaboration ends since R+F premium diapers are absorbent and allergen free yet affordably priced.
