My Makan Place serves homemade Indonesian food like Mee Soto, Mee Rebus and Ayam Penyet. But despite its menu and Indonesian style decor, My Makan Place is actually a casual dining place opened by a local Chinese family.
As expected, the Indonesian food served here are not authentically Indonesian in flavour. Rather, they are infused with Chinese influences. Their noodle dishes even takes on a modern twist by incorporating ramen/udon as options. But if you are not up for this twist, not to worry, traditional choices like yellow noodles and bee hoon ( vermicelli) are still available.

But because I am someone who likes to try new things, I applaud their effort for the innovative noodle choices and would highly recommended you their kway teow soto and ramen rebus! Personally I dislike yellow noodles (a staple in both mee soto and mee rebus) so kway teow/bee hoon makes a nice change for my mee soto. But for a thick sauce like mee rebus's, kway teow/bee hoon just does not make the cut. Hence, I found ramen to be a good substitute.

Another dish that I would urge you to try is their Ayam Penyet. Replacing tempeh with acchar, white rice with fragrant rice infused in chicken broth, this simple fried chicken rice dish is perfectly balanced and not overly rich. Best of all, because fresh chicken is used, the taste and texture of the chicken shines through, making this a satisfactory meal.
On first glance, the small menu and slightly higher price point (S$5.90 Nett for Mee Soto and S$6.90 Nett for Ayam Penyet) may put you off, but try once and you will understand that what you get is value for money. Apart from the generous ingredients, My Makan Place also painstakingly brew their own drinks and make all the broths, sauces and chilli from scratch without stock and MSG. Real stuff cannot bluff!
