Mr Good Says:

[UPDATE: 16 Jul 2022] Alfero Gelato is no longer served here. Prices have also gone up slightly. Oat Latte is now S$5 instead of S$4.80. Quality remains the same.

Balance Coffee is located on the street level of VIIO@Balestier, which is just next to Zhongshan Mall. It is opened by the same people behind Geisha Specialty Coffee at Burlington Square, which has garnered a loyal following since it began roasting its own beans in 2011. It serves both local and espresso based coffees at one of the cheapest prices you will find in a cafe. Yet, the quality is not compromised. For tea lovers, you can find Iced Lemon Tea, Yuan Yang, Hong Kong Milk Tea and Taiwan Milk Tea too. My brother-in-law tried the Taiwan Milk Tea and claims it is legit.

You can tell that Balance Coffee is serious about it coffee when the boss (or at least he looks like it) cum head barista patiently explains the different coffees and carefully prepares each cup with pride. I like that the latte (oat milk option available) served here is strong and not too milky; similar to the flat whites served elsewhere. But I find the black coffee a little acidic for my taste.

Other than drinks, you can also find simple bakes (Croissant, Muffin, Eclair), Snacks (Teriyaki Chicken Sandwich, French Toast, Truffle Fries) and a mix of Asian (Omu Rice, Nasi Lemak, Braised Pork Rice) and Western dishes (Aglio Olio, Beef Quesadilla, Prawn Burrito). We have tried the teriyaki sandwich and love it. Something about the sauce just hits the right spot; it is definitely not the typical salty one-dimensional teriyaki sauce that you get from a bottle. If time permits, we will try the ru rou fan next (braised pork rice). The last time we visited in the late afternoon, this was already sold out.
