Mr Good Says:
One of my friends suggested that we visit Mitzo for lunch because of their attractive weekday Dim Sum Set Lunch, which consists of a double boiled soup, a dim sum platter of your choice plus a dessert at S$28++. Considering that a non-vegetarian dim-sum platter alone already costs S$26++ in their ala carte menu, this lunch set really makes a good starting point to try out Mitzo.

You have probably guessed that Mitzo serves Cantonese Cuisine the moment I mentioned Dim Sum. However, Mitzo differs from other Cantonese restaurants; it has re-invented traditional Chinese dining by incorporating innovative ingredients to present a contemporary take on Cantonese dishes. In addition, it also offers artisan cocktails instead of teas. Like the menu, the decor is also decidedly modern with bold splashes of colours, fashionable art pieces and more square tables than round ones.

Located within Grand Park Orchard Hotel, Mitzo exudes the classiness expected of a hotel restaurant. Service is also charming throughout. Right from the start, we were greeted with the sweetest smile at the entrance. When we paused to take pictures at the entrance, there wasn't any impatience shown on the hostess's face. Then, as we ventured around to see take in the decoration, one waitress even brought us to their pretty bar area with a live fish tank. Noticing my pregnant wife, another attentive waitress also immediately offered a cushion as her back rest.
The one small set-back about Mitzo is that the layout of the restaurant makes it hard for the waitresses to see you if they are on the other end so service may not be immediate. But I think the waitresses here try their best. So while I may not get my water refilled before I ask, I was never left frustrated because of lack of service.

As for food, I am suitably satisfied. Set Lunch was enjoyable with beautifully presented dishes that are of good quality and above average taste.

If you like theatrics in your food, you will also appreciate that many of Mitzo's ala carte desserts (like the Chilled Pumpkin Sago shown above) are served with dry ice, adding that extra oomph to wow your guests at the end of the meal.

But frankly, appearances aside, what impressed me most is still their food. And that can be summed up in two words "Truffle Duck"! Think super crispy skin plus tender moist duck meat in a nicely aromatic truffle sauce made from minced truffles instead of truffle oil! This beats Peking Duck and Mitzo's famed BBQ Pork any day!
